Call for short story submissions: The Seven Wonders anthology

Reader, you knew this was coming (maybe you didn't but tbh you're here now!).

It's with great excitement, much delight and an overabundance of LinkedIn-speak that we're announcing the official call for submissions for our first short story anthology!

Short story submissions now open for witch-themed writing

What we're looking for

The theme of our first anthology, The Seven Wonders, is all things witchy. We are looking for English language (fiction) stories between 5 000 and 10 000 words in length, with a strong witch flavour. We only consider stories that have not been published before (including self-published, on blogs, newsletters and the like). In bullet format for the lazy reader:

  1. 5 000 to 10 000 words

  2. English

  3. Strong witch theme

  4. Never-before published, even by yourself.

Got it? Good.

What is a strong witch flavour?

We're looking for stories where witches are the central theme. You can do with that what you will - witchcraft has been part of many cultures for thousands of years, so don't limit yourself to the stereotypical 'bubble bubble toil and trouble' witches from Macbeth.

We'll leave it at that: witch means many different things to many different people, so surprise us ;)

How many stories will be included, and will I get paid?

We will extend an offer to publish to seven authors (get it? The Seven Wonders?). We'll sign standard publishing agreements with all seven authors. This means each selected author will receive royalties from each print and ebook sale.

Who can submit and where will you publish?

Anyone from anywhere can submit. The anthology will appear in print in South Africa and the UK, and worldwide as an ebook.

How do I submit?

Send a Word document of your short story to hello@miraripress.com with the subject line THE SEVEN WONDERS.

When do submissions close?

Submissions close 31 July 2024 at midnight.

Have more questions? Send us a mail at hello@miraripress.com and we'll gladly help.

Happy writing, and blessed be 🔮🌙
